How To Drive Traffic To Your eBay Store
By Ian Heslop
To make money from eBay you need to be able to do things: set up an eBay store and drive traffic to it.
As eBay itself shows you quite clearly how to set up your store and what type to choose if you are just starting out this article will focus on driving traffic to your eBay store. eBay is one of the most visited sites on the planet so the traffic is there already whereas if you build a website and drive traffic to it you have a much harder job to successfully get the traffic you want.
However, there is a way to make much more effective use of eBay’s traffic than most people realise. And, of course, more traffic equals more sales as long as you are doing everything correctly to maximise your sales.
First of all do some relevant research using the free tool at Google to find out what people are actually typing into the search boxes when they are looking for your type of product. You should do this even before you decide what to sell on eBay because you want to find a hot market and one with little competition so that you give yourself a chance of becoming successful. A search on eBay is also of course recommended so that you see what the competition is, how much product is being sold and for how much.
Anyway, let’s assume you’ve done all this basic stuff. Your next step is to think about how best to use the searched for keywords in your product titles. This is easy: just pick out the most relevant, that is searched for keyword phrase for your product, and use it in your title. You must be as specific as possible and avoid keywords that refer to a whole market and not the sub market you are targeting.
The same is true for your product description as it is the description that shows up in Google when people are using that search engine to look for information about your particular product. If your product description uses highly targeted keyword phrases then it will improve your free page ranking in Google.
The second thing you can do is to write a guide and put it on eBay MyWorld. This is the part of eBay where buyers and sellers can interact with each other. For example if you sell parts for classic cars you could write a short guide about how to start rebuilding any classic car. This is likely to interest those who are already keen on this hobby. Give your ebook away for free with a link to your eBay store where you are not only selling classic car parts but also numerous full length ebook guides to rebuilding a whole range of the most popular classic cars. You have a guide for each classic car.
Use eBay and non-eBay forums to give away useful information such as short tips in your particular market. In this way you can drive traffic to your eBay store through the link in your signature.
Use social media sites to attract followers and drive them to your store. It is almost essential these days to use the big social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn to get people to like and share what you are doing online. You cannot market directly on these sites as if you’re not careful you will get banned. But if you present yourself as someone who is an expert and someone who willingly gives away good free information then you will find it easy to get traffic from these sources.
